Sportage and Niro first wins of 2023

The Kia Niro and Sportage have picked up in the new year where they left off in 2022-right amongst the awards.

The all-new Niro collected the prize for 'Medium Car of the Year' and was praised for its drive, fuel economy and generous on-board equipment.

Meanwhile, the Sportage was named 'SUV of the Year' at the Company Car & Van Awards, thanks to its best-selling combination of fleet-friendly powertrains and equipment levels.

Both the all-new Niro and the fifth generation Sportage were launched in 2022 and were Kia's biggest sellers of the year in the UK. It just goes to show that the quality of the Niro and Sportage families have been appreciated by motorists and motoring journalists alike.

The fully electric Kia Niro EV has a driving range of up to 285 miles and a towing capacity of 750kg, underlining its versatility. With rapid charging, you can power up from 10%-80% in less than 50 minutes, meaning less time parked up at the charging station and more time getting from A to B.

Andrew Walker, Editor at Company Car & Van, said: “For company car drivers and fleet managers alike, the Niro comes as a plug-in hybrid and an EV, so you're guaranteed a car that works for the way you drive. Both models feature a top-class cabin with excellent safety and infotainment features, with almost all of it standard across the range.

“Kia can do no wrong at the moment and are producing cars that tick every box, especially in the company vehicle sector.”

The all-new Niro family also features a self-charging hybrid version (HEV) that doesn't require you plugging the car in whatsoever. The electric motor is charged by regenerative braking, which redirects power to assist with acceleration and uphill driving. It means the Niro HEV is still excellent on fuel consumption and economy.

On the Kia Sportage, Walker added: “How do you improve your best-selling and most successful car? Simple: don't fiddle around too much with how it looks, tick. Offer a fleet-friendly plug-in version, tick. Offer loads of goodies, even on the cheaper versions, tick.

“Add a great looking, top notch infotainment system, tick. And build it using higher quality materials, tick. A great car just got better!”

As well as the plug-in hybrid version, the Sportage too has an extensive range of powertrains available to suit every driver; mild hybrid, full hybrid, diesel and petrol engines. The only non-variable is that every version has a 1.6-litre engine under the bonnet, for excellent power guaranteed.
