Just how safe is the MG4 EV?
MG Motor UK has announced that its brand new MG4 EV electric vehicle has achieved a maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The rigorous testing process evaluates the standards the car holds for not only child and adult occupant safety, but other road users too. It also examines the additional safety assist functions a car possesses.
The MG4 electric hatchback is equipped with MG Pilot - a comprehensive package of safety features. Each of these are specifically designed to protect everyone on board, other road users and pedestrians.
But what do they do and how do they work? Here are just some of the excellent safety features explained.
Active Emergency Braking (AEB)
At speeds lower than 12mph, the car will use AEB to avoid collision with a vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian without you needing to hit the brake pedal. At speeds above 12mph, the active braking system will reduce the likelihood or mitigate the severity of an accident.Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The ACC monitors the road ahead for potential hazards. If it's clear, the MG4 will maintain the speed that the driver has set. If a car ahead is travelling slower than you, the system will ease your acceleration or implement the brakes if needed. If that car then speeds up or changes lanes, ACC system will revert you back to your desired pace.
Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
An on-board camera detects lane markings ahead and monitors the MG4's position on the road. If the car is suspected to be leaving a lane unintentionally, the driver will be alerted with a visual and audio lane departure warning. The steering wheel will also vibrate and LKA will control the steering to keep the car in the centre of the lane.Intelligent High Beam Assist (IHBA)
When your headlights are set to AUTO mode, the IHBA function will automatically switch to your lower beams once a car ahead is detected. It gives you more chance to focus on the road ahead in poorly lit surroundings while stopping oncoming road users from being dazzled by the high beam.
Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
When Adaptive Cruise Control is active, TJA continuously analyses the speed of surrounding traffic and compares it with its own driving speed. When travelling at speeds lower than 35mph, the TJA can be used and it will automatically mimic the speeds of the car ahead, ensuring you maintain a safe distance in heavy traffic.
The MG4 is MG's flagship fully electric hot hatch. It can achieve up to an unrivalled top driving range of 365 miles from a single charge.
Since its launch in September 2022, it's had praise heaped on it from all corners of the motoring industry for its value, practicality and style.
The Euro NCAP five star rating is also the first to be carried out on an MG EV model that features the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). This is MG's new adaptable vehicle architecture that all of their electric cars will be built upon in the future. It is the reason that MG's EV models can give you such amazing driving ranges.
It comes as no surprise that MG is the UK's fastest growing car brand.

What is Euro NCAP?
The European New Car Assessment Programme has been the benchmark for the safety of new vehicles on sale in Europe since 1997.
Euro NCAP performs extensive, objective and independent safety evaluations. It ensures that European drivers have the full facts about a vehicle's safety. They can make informed choices when it comes to deciding on a new car, and how it benefits them and their passengers.
