Kia wins big at DrivingElectric Awards

Kia has shown once again its credentials as a leader for quality electrified motoring, with four models taking home prizes at the fifth annual DrivingElectric Awards.

The new EV6 GT, Sportage Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and all-new Niro topped their respective categories. Each winner was determined on its overall value for money, performance, and practicality, as judged by the publication's expert panel.

The EV6 GT, Kia's most powerful electric vehicle, was named 'Best Electric Performance Car'. The 577bhp grand tourer delivers power and acceleration never seen before from a Kia electric car.

Richard Ingram is the Editor of DrivingElectric. He said: “In a category previously dominated by supercar-slaying German brands, the Kia EV6 GT challenges the status quo and shows its rivals a clean set of heels. The scintillating straight-line performance is only part of the package; the GT is an incredibly capable all-rounder.”

The EV6 GT sports a striking look with a dedicated GT grille and front bumper, strongly contoured body, and LED headlights complete with Intelligent Front Light System. At the rear, Kia's one-of-a-kind light signature spans from the rear wheel arch in a curved line, across over the boot, and is complemented by unique rear light clusters.

Stay on the road for longer with the EV6 GT's ultra-fast charging capability. There's nothing worse than hanging around at the charging point. Go from 10% charge to 80% in just 18 minutes and get where you need to be quicker, or simply just enjoy your drive for longer.

The Kia Sportage PHEV was named 'Best Plug-in Hybrid Car', and the all-new Niro was named 'Best Hybrid Family Car'.

Both models were launched in 2022 and it's no surprise that they have become Kia's most popular models in the UK this year.

It is the first time that the Sportage has had a plug-in hybrid version. The Sportage PHEV comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and offers up to 43 miles of exclusively battery-powered driving.

It is a larger model than its SUV rival, the Hyundai Tucson. The Sportage PHEV packs an impressive 540 litres of boot space, complete with a low loading edge to ensure the storage compartment is accessible to all.

Richard Ingram commented: “Plug-in hybrids are growing in popularity. If you want a car with a usable range, plenty of kit, and space for the whole family, then little comes close to the Kia Sportage.

“Our sister site, Caybuyer, voted the all-new Kia Niro as its 'Overall Car of the Year' only a few months ago. Now it goes on to triumph here as well. Spacious, super-efficient and good to drive, there's no finer hybrid family car currently on sale.”

The all-new Niro hybrid comes with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, 1.32 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, plus a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Not only is it great for the environment with its low CO2 emissions and great fuel economy, but it also boasts vegan leather upholstery.

Kia as a brand is dedicated to building a sustainable future.

The fourth Kia model to pick up a prize from the Awards was the previous version of the Niro, winning 'Best Used Hybrid Car'.

“New or used, the Kia Niro is a great all-rounder. Those on a budget shouldn't feel short-changed either; the previous generation Niro represents great value for money and could dramatically slash your running costs,” added Ingram.

Chapelhouse has a great selection of Kia Used cars, including hybrid vehicles like the Niro, as well as the full range of new models.
