Kia EV6 scoops AutoTrader ‘New Car of the Year’ award

The high-performance Kia EV6 has been named as the 'New Car of the Year' at the 2023 AutoTrader New Car Awards. 

The Kia Soul EV was the second of Kia's electric lineup to collect an award, being named 'Best Value Electric Car'. 

The AutoTrader New Car Awards differ from most other car awards. The winners aren't decided by a panel of motoring industry experts, but the people who know the cars the most - the car owners themselves. 

This year, over 220,000 UK car owners completed an online survey sharing exactly what they think of their car, with their thoughts and opinions determining the winners of 20 of this year's 23 award categories, including both of Kia's triumphs. 

Erin Baker is the Editorial Director at Auto Trader. She said: “The Kia EV6 is hugely deserving of this year's New Car of the Year, impressing both consumers and the industry alike. 

“It took the market by storm when it was launched, with an innovative design, great range, incredible interior space, tonnes of features and fantastic peace of mind for owners, thanks to outstanding brand reliability.

“As one happy EV6 owner so aptly summed it up: 'It's the best all-round car - the combination of technology, range, quality, charging speed, and drive of the car makes it the most satisfyingly complete car. It's not just a brilliant electric car, it's just a brilliant car, full stop.'

Since its launch in 2021, the all-conquering Kia EV6 has consistently impressed owners and reviewers alike, with its powerful 77.4kWh battery, stunning design, and excellent 328-mile electric driving range. The ultra-fast charging time of just 18 minutes won't have you hanging around the charging point for too long either. 

This AutoTrader Award is just the latest of the EV6's successes in its relatively short lifespan. It was also named as both Europe's 'Car of the Year' and WhatCar? 'Overall Car of the Year' in 2022.

The Soul EV was Kia's first electric car in the UK, originally launching to critical acclaim in 2014. 

Since then, the Soul EV has gone from strength to strength, with a choice of battery options. The Explore spec allows for a 280-mile driving range, while the 'Urban' offers a medium range of 171 that caters for more predominantly city drivers.  

Baker said of the Soul EV: “It represents excellent value for money for those looking to make the move to electric. One owner described it as: 'An excellent car. It's our second electric car and the range of the bigger battery is spot on!'”. 

The award-winning Kia electric range is ever-expanding, as part of Kia's 'Plan S' strategy. It will see the brand launch 15 EVs globally by 2027.
